Our new normal...Stay at home order begins.

Rochester Schools was the first school district to cancel school in the state so we were really in total SHOCK. We got the call on a Wednesday night while hiking in the woods at our park. We couldn't believe it. What was going to follow? Was I going to get the call from Oxford? Would we go back in a few weeks? Who would take off work on which days to stay home with the kids. We had no idea...
So, on Thursday Ben stayed home with the kids and I put into stay home Friday. Welp, Thursday night Governor Whittmer called schools across Michigan starting Monday so I never went back. Our new normal begins with social distancing and a at-home order with COVID-19, the coronavirus.

Our first day of distance learning...Luke made nameplates for each "desk".
Thank goodness for the park next to us filled with the woods and trails. We make it here at least once a day.
Cooking class: Learning the measurements.
These kids. I came out and they had made up this race that involved "sledding" down our driveway.
Putting the finishing touches on their Leprechaun trap.
With the campuses closed, we had fun riding all over OU's campus.
We stopped to play a game of whiffle ball on the intramural fields.
This was the first time that Luke struck out Ben! Ben couldn't believe it and chased Luke around the field tackling Luke. Everyone dog piled on top.
Snuggled in tight.
Walk around the lake at Spencer Park...
Back to distance learning!
Practicing washing our hands...
A snapshot of our house turning into a space for learning during the week.

Labeling the number of COVID cases by country.

Art!

We played lots of family ball over at Borden Park. This night it was soaking! I stayed in the van but these guys were drenched.
The trap is setup in hopes to catch that little fella.
Lucky got away AGAIN but he left his famous Lucky Charms. Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
We sorted, counted, and added the 3 piles together of marshmallows and cereal pieces.
We then graphed our results on a line plot.
Back to reading and sharing our thinking about the story with one another.
Ben was going to do the special of P.E. for the day. When I came downstairs, this is what I found. He pressed the meditation lesson. For real?!

We took a little drive to checkout a new park in the area. Luke was a little hesitant to cross the river on the log. However, Ellie jumped right on and of course, Luke changed his mind. :)
The boys hopped off their bikes and climbed this rock wall.
Drew practicing his numbers.
For math today, we played the card game 31!
Luke's teacher gave them a scavenger hunt they needed to complete and email a pic.
And his letters...
These sweet faces keep growing in these counter pictures!!
Luke's big Lion King musical was canceled until further notice. With that news, we all wore our Zazu shirts to support him.

We headed over to Stony Creek Metro Park for a bike ride around the lake. Another rainy day, but we have to get outside as a family at least once a day!

During this time, our van is just packed with bikes, scooters, helmets, footballs, bball gloves and balls, sidewalk chalk etc. so we can just pull over where ever and be ready to go. These 2 were so tired after the bike ride. This was them on the way home. PERFECT.
We were all so cold, it was a hot tub with suits on for all three. Look how scrunched they are now!! Time SLOW down!

Elle's opinion essay. From the mouth of babes...
We are so excited to see GG and Aunt Cathy!
Connecting with family during the coronavirus. We are SO grateful for them and our weekly visits!
They surprised us with all kinds of little treasures!

Ben and Luke building the hydraulic arm from Aunt Cathy!
Outside on their "fort". They LOVE playing pirates after watching Swiss Family Robinson.
Luke and Elle serving up lunch today!
Next up was a visit to Rochester College's campus for a bike ride.

And get the ball out of the van. Always up for a game of bball.
We had an overnight sleepover in the fort they built. All three of them stayed the entire night in the fort!

Back to Spencer Park for a ride around the lake.
We stopped by Borden on our way home so the boys could play ball and Elle and I did sidewalk chalk.
One of the rainy nights we played a family tourney of Mario Kart!! I came in 2nd (which never happens) and Luke won.

Our own cuddlebug finding Goldbug.
Luke and Elle were invited to share the weekly Bible verse for Kensington. They had so much fun and nailed it.
RCS came out with their plan for their remote learning. I am excited for their learning to continue with their classes and teachers however, I will miss creating their lessons for them as well. It was a special time.

SNOW?! Luke's fort.
Elle and Drew's fort.

And just like that the snow was melted by dinner. Outside for a family game of football.
Inspired from our Art teacher and the movement that started in Italy, we jumped on the making rainbow bandwagon.

Ellie had her first piano lesson through Zoom! LOVE how all of the teachers and coaches are reaching out at a time like this.
Heading back to Borden and the playgrounds are now actually roped off. The signs of this terrible virus keep propping up.
But back at home the world feel just right with chocolate chip cookies and playing Spoons!
Ben's new normal at work...
More baseball practice after work...
The kids both received special cards from Luke's 3rd grade teacher. All of these little blessings remind us how lucky we are.
