A New School Year with LOTS of Firsts

This school year started really like no other school year. Oh, 2020. I was asked to step down from my IB Coordinator role and back into my 3rd grade teaching position. Luckily, I hadn't taken down my classroom yet so I was able to step right back in to that teaching spot. Oxford was starting face to face while Rochester schools was starting with remote learning. Thankfully, Ben with Oakland Schools, was also remote. So here we go! In reality, truly living day by day.
The tradition of our kiddos filling out their start of the year interview questionnaire!
How can it be? Our baby. Our sweet little soul that rounded out our family. Drew starts kindergarten this year!!!
The night before Drew's 1st day of Kindergarten (remotely), we read "Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come!". I have read this book to all 3 of our babies before their big 1st day at kindergarten. I had all the feels while reading this book to Drew. Not only was it my baby heading off to school but due to COVID, the remote learning and all of his school looking so different then the pictures in this book....My heart was feeling it. All of it.

Drew was SO EXCITED though, that his excitement swept us all up!!! That is something so special about kids. Their resiliency, curiosity, and excitement about life is so real, it's contagious!
Drew picked out all of his 1st day of school clothing options...Right down to his socks and unders. He had us all take a vote on what outfit he should wear.:)
Drew was beaning!

And here we are...The 1st day of school for these three!! This year, we have a 5th grader, 3rd grader, and kinder!!
Ellie even made a nametag for Drew to wear...Can you spot it on him? She wanted his teacher and all of his new friends to know who he was over Zoom...Such a sweetheart!
Drew, Mom and Dad are SOOOOO proud of you!! You are going to do such BIG things in our world! We love you so, SO much!
Drew's Kindergarten teacher for 2020: Mrs. Hundley

Elle, We are so proud of you!! You are going to rock 3rd grade!! We love you SOOOO much!!
Elle's 3rd Grade Teacher 2020: Ms. Cunningham
Luke, What?! How are you in 5th grade??? You are the big kid on campus now! We love you SO much!!
Luke's 5th Grade Teacher: Mr. Kerstein

We are the luckiest to have these 3 humans.
AND downstairs they go to school. Insert laughing and crying emoji.
Here I am at school face to face. The shield was short-lived.
Drew lost his 1st tooth!
All 3 lined up to get their flu shots. I was laughing so hard. The nurses walked in and told them to put their pants down and there they were....All 3 lined up ready to go. Haha!
We love our McGregor teachers so much! Honestly, we got to a point in the Fall where we would see them weekly at our house. Today, our kiddos woke up to this on our front porch! They dropped off their prizes for winning different Zoom games in the spring. They even left Starbucks hot chocolate! Teachers rule!!
Luke played his 1st game on his travel team and it was a special one. They played a double header (on a school night which....ok) at Jimmy John's field. We invited both sets of grandparents to come too!

Luke taking a quick break to eat dinner before his next game!
Stealing my moves, Drew dancing on the bar...
Pics from the team photographer... 2-4!!!

It was a long, late night but we are so proud of you Lukie!! GO 2-4!!
We couldn't find Drew and then we found him...Life is tough as a new kinder. He was zonked under his bunkbed!
Costume Day for this guy on Zoom.
I found this note to Jesus written from Ellie. Oh, my heart.
Fall ball underway and no, they are not all at Jimmy John's. Drew ALWAYS wants to dress the part!

Ben took the kids Geocashing! They found some treasures.

Elle finally learning how to tie her shoes!

ANNNNDDDD another 1st day of school! Rochester is BACK, well 2 days a week. We were all so excited to get back and see our teachers and friends! I took the morning off work to celebrate this special 1st day...especially for our big guy kindergartner!

We raced to the school to watch our kiddos get off the bus. The school was playing music, had all of the staff outside cheering for the kids when they arrived, Howie the McG Cougar was out and about, signs were welcoming the kids back...It really brought tears to my eyes. Each day we keep moving forward and rarely do I take a take a second how hard and sad some of this time has been. BUT it sure feels good to be back! Schools are such a special place. They mean so much to families and our communities.

Elle went in her assigned doorway after getting a squirt of hand sanitizer. Luke walked Drew into his class for the first time. Parents weren't allowed to go inside due to COVID. Parents weren't actually allowed on campus at all BUT we had to be there to see Drew at least walk in on his first day. We are so thankful Luke was able to be there with him. Great job, big bro. This moment melted our hearts.

Afterwards, Ben and I celebrated by going out to breakfast at our favorite spot downtown, The Rochester Brunch House. It is something to celebrate!! We did it!!! 2 working parents, raising 3 kids, and we made it to having all of them out of their nanny/daycare/preschool years and into Elementary!!! WAHOO!!!
